In 1974 Porsche presented a forced induction, road going sports car at the Paris Motor Show. It was not just a Porsche it was the first production car to make practical use of a turbocharger, with a three liter capacity and exhaust gas turbocharger the Turbo entered a new dimension. Porsche transferred its extensive experience of turbo-charging from racing to the production line. For the 1976 production year, a new model, called the "Turbo Carrera" was available (type 930, but officially titled "Turbo Carrera"). The 911 Turbo began first as 930 type, and the lineage has continued from the 80s through to 21st century with types 964, 993, and to the current 996.
